Reflections & Transitions

"This is the key to life: the ability to reflect, the ability to know yourself, the ability to pause for a second before reacting automatically.
If you can truly know yourself, you will begin the journey of transformation."
Deepak Chopra (1947 - present)

As I reflect on the past twelve months, I am struck by how swiftly time has passed and how much change has happened.

It seems like a life-time away, but this time last year I had my own Studio with a regular routine, and now my days are occupied with booking venues, preparing for QiGong classes, Forest Bathing sessions, and all the other tasks that develop as I transition from “Body Mind as One” to “Flow is Life”.

Yet I know that this is a period of change and it will settle
and I will be able to return to 'normal' - whatever that is!

Making this shift has certainly given me its share of challenges! Nevertheless, I have welcomed (surprisingly) the opportunity to learn and to revisit what I thought I knew. Even more surprising is that throughout this process, I've noticed that my ability to maintain focus without stressing has improved, even when faced with an ever-expanding to-do list (thank you QiGong and Forest Bathing!).

Attention Evolution

Which reminded me of something I read a few months back and deeply shocked me!

The rapid decline in attention spans; a trend that is sadly, prevalent among our younger people. Research suggested that our capacity for focused attention has diminished over the past decade, dropping from ten minutes to a mere six seconds!

While I am uncertain about how such figures are calculated and how true they might be, the shift does show in everyday life. Things like patience and tolerance seem to be vanishing, and there is an ever increasing tendency for constant stimulation and entertainment; driven by technology dictating to us and Apps taking over tasks which, if we were truly in-touch with ourselves, we wouldn't even consider using.

Hey Ho! 🤷

Disconnection

This was highlighted in my recent over-Christmas stay in Lincolnshire. My brother and I stayed in a delightful ex-Gate Lodge; quirky and cosy!

The internet connection was frequently unreliable, prompting even my older brother (normally heavily reliant on technology) to relax and adapt. Despite the inconsistent Wi-Fi, we found so much fun in simple things such as; completing a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle, playing Trivial Pursuit (Baby Boomers edition), exploring Horncastle, Lincoln, Skegness, and Woodhall Spa (well worth a visit), and taking awe inspiring walks around the estate, soaking up the calming atmosphere that only nature can provide.

And each morning was made all the more magical by the sight of rare breed black deer as I opened my bedroom curtains in the morning (see above), a truly special experience!

Onwards

I am welcoming the coming year, and I am eager to return (when things settle down) to my ongoing exploration of QiGong and the remarkable healing powers of nature in the practice of Forest Bathing. These practices never fail to inspire and fascinate me, and I look forward to increasing my knowledge and understanding and to share them with you.

See you in class or in the woodland (or both).

Take Care

Janet 🙏
